So Delicious: Spinach Po' Boys

Has it been cold where you are for the last few days?  It has been bone-chilling, so seeing as it's the weekend (and a long one at that), I have been running around the house wearing pajamas, not going out.  It's incredibly therapeutic, and I highly recommend it - especially if pajamas apparently make your kitten cuddle with you more.
J and I were looking for a soup to ward off the insane cold of the past little bit.  I pulled out the new soup cookbook that I got for Christmas, and didn't find a soup but did find a sandwich that caught my eye.  J even thought it sounded promising.  I decided that the sandwiches sounded delicious, and they needed a lighter, broth-based soup; so I made a quick chicken and vegetable noodle soup and these sandwiches.  Make these.  They're amazing.

Mardi Gras: Carrot Cake Pancakes

Today is Pancake Day.  It is now 6 weeks to Easter, and I don't think I'm giving up anything for Lent.  Seeing as this is the first that I've even thought about it, I don't think I am giving up anything; other than perhaps winning on Roll up the Rim.
I decided that this year for Pancake Day that I would make a new recipe, and I went looking through my pins to find something interesting.  I found these.  They were even labelled "healthy".
Carrot cake is one of my favourite cakes.  The pineapple, the nuts, the cream cheese good.  While it is so good, it's also not really a breakfast option, nor the healthiest thing to eat on a regular basis.  Frankly, pancakes aren't really something to eat on a regular basis either.  But seeing as Marketplace announced that Nutella was akin to spreading candy on toast, pancakes can't be that bad...especially when you don't have the stuff in the house to make the cream cheese glaze.
Besides...I didn't have ground flax either.

#TripleSBites: Molten Mocha Cakes

It's the last day of #TripleSBites - and it's been way fun!  Make sure to visit the other bloggers for their spicy, saucy and sexy recipes to celebrate the end of the event!!
During the Twitter party last week, one of the the questions was about whether a dessert should be to share, or individual.  My response was always individual.  I love chocolate lava cake, and this was one to add to my collection from the Magazine Challenge.  Individual desserts from Everyday Foods have worked in the past, and this is lava cake.  How could that be bad?

#TripleSBites: Red Hot Pinup

When thinking of all things spicy and what I could do for #TripleSBites, I thought of spiced rum and J's love of Sailor Jerry's.
A few years ago at a staff Christmas party, J and I were introduced to Jerry in a bottle, a rum neither of us were familiar with.  It was smooth and delicious when paired with icy Coca Cola.  I bought J a bottle for Christmas.  The problem is, we're light-weights when it comes to drinking.  The bottle has languished with the rest of our liquor, pulled out rarely for a Friday night drink when there's no where to go and a lazy evening ahead.
I turned to the recipe searcher's friend, Pinterest, to find something incorporating our favourite spiced rum into a cocktail for those lazy evenings.  When I saw this, I was sold.  Rum, cinnamon hearts (or red hots, for those of you south of the 49th parallel) and my favourite soda, gingerale.  What could be bad about that?

#TripleSBites: Spicy Chicken Skewers with Thai Peanut Dipping Sauce

I don't know what it is about food that can be eaten without utensils, but it somehow seems to me that they belong on a romantic menu.
I went looking for a literary reference that I remembered reading long ago from a Gordon Korman book called Son of Interflux (literary is in the eye of the beholder) where Simon is counseled on what to eat on his date with Wendy.  If I remember correctly (we're talking I read this 25-30 years ago), He's advised to eat salad, and forego the poppyseed rolls because the seeds get stuck in your teeth.
This recipe has neither seeds nor salad. It is, however, a nice meal to share.  A little like fondue, a little spicy and unexpected. J and I both enjoyed these skewers.  The marinade is easy, the dipping sauce is spicy and if you're me, you might consider spreading it on crackers afterwards.
This is also somewhat heart healthy, as it comes from Anne Lindsay's Lighthearted Everyday Cooking.  So there you go.  You're even considering the health of your loved one.  You're welcome.

#TripleSBites: Chocolate-Orange Meringue Kisses

Welcome to #TripleSBites!  20 bloggers coming together to share spicy, saucy and sexy recipes just in time for Valentine's Day!  Today, all 20 of us have a recipe to share to kick off this week-long event.
As my earlier post from today indicated, I'm sharing a second post from my Secret Recipe Club blog this month, Chit, Chat, Chomp.
When I think of Valentine's, there's obviously going to be some kissing!  As I put these together, J wasn't quite sure what was going on, but he was willing to try.  That's okay.  He's willing to try most things.
The result?  Delicious little bites that melt in your mouth.  With chocolate ganache.  How could that be bad?

Secret Recipe Club: Chocolate Filled Brioche

This marks the end of the first year that I have been a part of the Secret Recipe Club. 1 year of being assigned another blog and discovering the yumminess that exists in other corners of the internet.  I love it, even when I don't seem to have time and am scrambling at the last minute because of my own procrastination.
Thankfully, this month, I did not procrastinate, and am somewhat ahead of schedule.  Seeing as I'm prepping for a blogging event that also starts today, I've been working on recipes to tickle your fancy for a month.  That meant when I was assigned my blog for SRC this month, I had to find a kickoff post for #TripleSBites as well.  Then I realized that it wasn't fair to either post to do a ginormous cross-post (plus it would have been wicked long), so I have for you not 1, but 2 recipes from my SRC assignment today.  Come back after 9AM EST for the second post!! (and to enter the giveaway, and see all the great things that people made for the #TripleSBites kickoff)
This month, I was so excited to be assigned the wonderful blog Chit Chat...Chomp.  What excited me most was that Leigh does something that I am not always good about doing - commenting EVERY month on my SRC post.  I'm not nearly as good in my own commenting.  But I do appreciate that about her!
Leigh is an Australian girl after my own heart.  She and I both enjoy French food, and she started her blog to start actually using the cookbooks on her shelf.  In fact, she has a cookbook challenge that is somewhat similar to my own Magazine Challenge.  The recipe I chose here is from said challenge.
I thought about making Anzac biscuits, I mean, if you're going to use an Australian blog, why not make something truly Australian?  I also considered Lemon Meringue Cupcakes, because I love a lemon dessert.  But I finally settled on Chocolate Filled Brioche; partly because I needed something for breakfast and this sounded decadent and amazing, and partly because my other recipe from Leigh's blog used egg whites.
Yep, I ate these for breakfast.  J shook his head at me.  You totally want to live at my house.
