#10DaysofTailgate: Linebacker-Sized Chocolate Chunk Cookies

The beauty of tailgating is that almost anything goes - so long as it travels well.  When J and I were dating, and I would go to football with him and his family, I was always trying to find something that I could take for tailgating that would travel well.  These cookies would have fit the bill.
J's favourite cookie is chocolate chip.  He doesn't think that there should be nuts or coconut or anything else.  While I don't agree, this recipe is a classic.  The high butter content of the cookie means that it is flat and chewy.  The size means you only want one.  Even it you're sitting out all afternoon waiting for the game to begin.
I present to you now from the September 2006 Everyday Food, Giant Chocolate Chunk Cookies:

2 c flour
1-1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 c butter, softened
1 c white sugar
3/4 c brown sugar, packed
2 eggs
2 tsp vanilla
1 bag chocolate chunks
1.  Preheat oven to 375F.  In a large bowl, stir together flour, soda and salt.  Set aside.
2.  In the bowl of a stand mixer, cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy.  Add eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla.
3.  With the mixer on low, add flour and mix until blended.  Stir in chunks by hand.
4.  Using a 1/4 cup, drop 4 cookies on a baking sheet, leaving space for spreading.  Bake at 375F for 10-13 minutes, until golden.  Let cool 10 minutes on the baking sheet before removing to a rack to cool completely.

What can I say?  They're cookies.  But chocolate chunks.  Yum.

These spread.  A lot.  4 were enough on a baking sheet.  1/4 cup also makes a large cookie.  I used my baking stone and pizza stone to get a consistent cookie.
But they look lovely.  I like a thin, chewy cookie.  J enjoyed them too.  I stacked them in a tall Tupperware container that was slightly larger in diameter than the cookies.  Which makes them easy to travel to your next tailgate.
